As we follow trends in social media, one development caught our attention: LinkedIn added a button that lets people flag content as “Seems like AI slop.”
It was interesting to see a major social media company intentionally give users that option. It also raises a question about the future: Will we see similar feedback options in other places where people encounter AI content?
LinkedIn says this feedback helps it understand what members consider low-value content and improve the feed. Separately, the company says content that appears AI-generated and lacks a clear perspective is less likely to be widely distributed beyond someone’s immediate network. Easier to produce doesn’t mean easier to stand out
This matters because while AI has made it easier than ever to produce content, it also increases the possibility of that information all looking and feeling the same.
To us, that’s another reason you can’t count on spamming your way to success.
We believe an individual’s point of view is going to become more important. You can already find tutorials and explanations for many of the questions your customers have. What you bring is your experience: what you’ve tried, what you’ve noticed, and why you would recommend one approach.
You have to bring something from your point of view that makes what you’re sharing distinguishable and different.
You can use AI and still use your own voice
This doesn’t mean you can’t use AI to assist with your writing. But you do need to use your own voice.
You can do something as simple as have AI interview you about a specific subject, then help you organize the post based on your own wording and content.
We used that approach for this article. We started with questions, dictated our thoughts, and used AI to help organize the answers and clean up the grammar. The wording choices are our own, and the observations are specific to our experience.
This can also help you create structure within your content, whether it’s written or video, so you address the main questions you want to answer.
AI can help you organize what you know. It will not replace doing the work.
